The Children Series
The selected works here are from an ongoing series, dating from 2002 through to the present.
Employing a diversity of references as starting points - from personal photographs through to newspaper images - Denise seeks to explore the nature of the representation of the juvenile human form as a visual image in her paintings and graphic works. Themes of innocence and the romantic idyll of childhood are juxtaposed with the darker reality of life.
This series of work alludes strongly to memory and the passage of time. The work depicts moments frozen in time via familiar imagery. They depict personalised histories as both rreality and illusion.
